FAQ

I get a lot of the same questions from a lot of different people and photographers, and sometimes do not have the time to respond to everyone. If you have questions about fashion, work, equipment, editing, process, etc, here are some basic answers.

How did you get into blogging?

Ever since I was little, I've always been interested in fashion. My parents told me I would never let them dress me and I was always changing my clothes. Sometimes it was five times a day. I guess that's where it all started... Photographing models and fashion brands really sparked more interest. I thought to myself, "Why don't I just start styling my own looks and sharing them?". So that's how it started. I started sharing my looks on lookbook.nu back in the day, and eventually started sharing them on my Instagram. From my Instagram, my blog fully developed, and now I'm here today working with brands I could have never imaged working with on a weekly basis. It's honestly a dream, and it shows hard work pays off.

How did you get into photography?

Photography has been in my family for years. My dad was a photographer when I was kid, so I was always surrounded by cameras and my dad always snapping photos of us. When I was about 14 (in 2006), my parents bought their first digital camera. My dad noticed that I was always wanting to use it, and started getting familiar with the different features. Eventually, I started taking a digital photography class in high school, and fell in love with the art. From there, I was always known as "the girl with the camera" and wanting to go out with friends and take photos. I'm not a "quote" sort of person, but my senior quote in my year book was "Let's go out and take photos" (haha seriously). I guess you could say that's where it started. It was a hobby that turned into a career.

What kind of equipment do you use?

-Canon 5D Mark III with a 50 f1.2L,  24-70 f2.8L lens, 35 f1.4L lens, and a 40 f2.8 lens.

What programs do you use to edit?

-Lightroom and Photoshop

Where are your camera bags from?

-ONA bags

How do you get your colors the way they do?

-I use VSCO presets. My favorite are the Kodak Portras from VSCO 01 and 02, and all the presets in VSCO 05 and 06.

Do you have any tips for beginner portrait photographers?

Something I always tell people is to try and use as much natural lighting as possible. Overcast is ideal for portraits so you don't have to worry about awkward shadows. If you’re located where it’s sunny, it’s sometimes fun to play with shadows. Otherwise the best time is right before the sun sets. I also like to shoot at different locations: forests, lakes or rivers, indoors with natural window lighting, and cool walls in a city. Try and explore for those great locations in your area so you can incorporate those in your shoots.
